More about this scene

This lovely, leafy village is situated near Southport. On the edge of the village stands the black and white half-timbered Rufford Old Hall, owned now by the National Trust, but seat of the Hesketh family for about 600 years. As lords of the manor, the Heskeths influenced village building, and were instrumental in draining the mosslands. In Church Road stands the 1869 Gothic-style church of St Mary, with monuments of past Heskeths brought from earlier churches.

A Selection of Memories from Rufford

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Rufford

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

I first visited Rufford on a "School Trip" from Aintree in about 1955 (about the time of the Frith photograph). We were brought to Rufford Old Hall and a nearby Pig Farm, both memories that remain with me. I also remember the "Gingerbread Stall" on nearby Ormskirk market on the way home. I now live, in retirement, in Rufford.
