Margery Dickens
Margery Dickens was one of five children who were born in Wibtoft in the 1920s, she went to Little Claybrooke school, she walked every day and was expected to collect wood on the way home. She came from a very poor family, she shared a pair of boots with her elder brother Reg. She told us as children that one of the Stanhope family kept a donkey in their house which frightened the postman (fancy opening the letterbox to a donkey's face). The ghost of one of the Stanhope family still haughts the A5, it's said he can be seen crossing on a foggy night.
Netherley House, Hinckley Road
Hi Can anyone help me? Was there a Netherley House in Hinckley Road in the late 1930s/early 1940s? I have a relative who was born there in November 1940 but I cant see any record of the place. Any help would be appreciated. Regards Tracey
School Run
I lived up at the Three Pots on the A5, just opposite the pub of that name, me and my mum and dad had just moved there from Wellesborough near Sibson when I started at Burbage infant church school in 1955. On my first day at school, around November time, it was really cold with deep snow and me and my mum walked up to catch the H21 at the bus stop up by the Co-op at the top of Wolvey Road. My feet got so cold and wet as I only had ordinary school shoes on, she had to take me back home again to warm me up and put me in some dry socks and wellingtons, I think I got to school about an hour late, on my first day as well. Earl Shilton Bakery in The 1930s?
Does anyone know anything about a bakery in Earl Shilton around the time of 1930? My husband's family apparently lived and worked there and I'd love to find out more about it.
Grandfather
My grandad lived in Sharnford as a young boy and young man before he married my grandma. I know nothing about him or the family or where he lived. Can anyone help.
Happy Days
I was born on the 6th of July 1936 at 61 Hinckley Road. My mother was Edith Truslove, nee Turrell, father William Truslove. I had an idyllic childhood. Playing in Ken Underwood's fields. Watching the quarry steam locos running to and from the quarries on Sapcote Road and the crusher down Elmsthorpe Lane. All my uncles worked in the quarries as did most of the village men. We had long walks to Croft, Sapcote,Elmsthorpe and Watery Gate, lots of picnics. Wonderful teachers, Jenny Tansy, Mrs Middleton, Mr Pye Bill Truslove
Claybrooke Magna
Arthur and Sarah Chamberlain lived in this village in the 1900 to at least 1940. They had 9 children, maybe more. My mother, Olive Eunice Chamberlain, was the youngest. She died when I was seven so I have no memories or information about her, her past or my grandparents and thier family. There are no photgraphs that I know of, so if there is anyone out there that can help me I would be really grateful.
