St Johns Primary School

A Memory of Shirley.

This is the entrance to my primary school. I was there from 1960 - 64. Most of the teachers were Welsh. Ryan Davies was very influential before he went back into TV and theatre so was Mr Evans, Mrs Davis and Miss Straker (the only English teacher!) Even the head was Welsh Mr Lewis.

Also went to St Johns 1959 - 66. Years later I met Mr Evans, he was head (or deputy) at Edenham School, Orchard Way.
Teachers I remember were class 1, Mrs Hopkins, Class 2Mrs Cresswell (My mother taught her to drive), class 3 Miss Money, Class 4 Miss Straker. She got married whilst we were there and I think became Mrs Dunk. Class 5 Ryan Davies, Class 6 Mr Evans. I can't remember who we had the last year, might have been Mrs Cresswell again. Mr Lewis was the head master.
Always went to Mr Wibley in the shop next door on the way home
Hah!.....and I was there 1959-1965, so do we cover three adjacent years? I was a big customer of Mr Wibley - managed to spend my lunch money there for months before being found out.
I've also just been reminiscing about Ryan Davies, who wrote the school plays in 1964 (Paradise Island) and 1965 - and organised trips to the Eisteddfod.
I recall Mrs Hopkins teaching class 2 and Miss Money class 3. I'd have to look up the rest from my school report
This is to Keith Phair. I played the 1st mate in the play Paradise Island and understudy to the Captain so played and sang both parts. I went to Llangollen as well. Very advanced in education we also had a school trip to Deippe, France
