I was born at 9 Markham Ave in 1941 at my grandparents home We moved to 98 Poplar Rd when I was a baby our house was on the corner of Edward Rd there was only 15 houses then the road was blocked with corrugated sheets we called them the tins the rest of Edward Rd was built in the 1950s I went to Skellow Infants School were I remember we had to go to sleep in the afternoons on fold up beds .then to ...see more
I was born and lived in skellow until 1965, but visited my Grandfather there until the early 1990's I remember Elaine & Pat's Garage, as my grandfathar used to fill his car up there.. They were wonderful people, and my memories were always of a special "treat" of a bar of chocolate from the little wooden "shed" they had by the pumps. I remember them building their bungalow there. Happy days.
I was born in Skellow, 1 George Street. My dad, grandad and uncle worked at the pit; my dad and grandad in the power house. I spent many happy days there sitting behind the big table with me dad, grandad and uncle. I blew the pit whistle a few times. I remember all the cats; we used to take one home. My mates swimming in the res., close to pit. I had my hair cut many times there, with the old cutters. I used to take me dad ...see more
I remember a painful memory - freewheeling down here on my pushbike and the brakes not working - then slamming into a car at the junction in the bottom left corner.
