Mum
My mother was born in Sandy Lane, at the very top of the road above Hutchinsons Chemists!
Secondary School
In 1958 secondary education was available for children who failed the 11+ exam. I attended Skelmersdale Secondary School aged 13 years, 51 weeks old. I was so proud of my new uniform. My best friend was Vivien Pierce and we started together and we loved it. It was a great disappointment not to be able to leave school a year later because I was a few days too young (I had a job to go to). They allowed me leave at Christmas, alas I has lost the job I coveted.
Living in Old Skem
Born in 1961 in Ormskirk Hospital to Richard & Eva Esp, i have lived in Skem for 21years before moving to Kitt Green Wigan after getting married. My memories of Skem is the schools i attended first Barns Road, then Brookfield County Primary and lastly Glenburn High, i left there in 1977. I try to visit Skem as often as i can but now living in Grantham Lincolnhsire i find it hard to get over. Both my parents are still living in Skem. I remember Skem United winning the cup in the early 70's and watching them drive through the town in a open top bus displaying the cup, what a welcoming home they had. I also remember the Concourse being built in the late 60's/ early 70's especially when i attended Glenburn High we would go over there and spend our dinner money in Sayers or Reeces on big fat cream cakes. How then New Skem taking over watching all the houses going up.
My Holidays
I was born in Skelmersdale in 1958 to Wilfred Conder and Freada Price. I moved to Newcastle in 1960. My mum used to take me there for my holidays. Her parents lived on Hollands Lane in a cottage. I have not been back since 1980 for an unsuccesful attempt to visit my aunty and cousins. They lived by Skelmersdale football ground, although it is gone now.

I was brought up in Up Holland and still think of it as home.
Childhood
I lived in Ormskirk Road, next to the Grimshaw Lane Pub. I went to Digmoor School, and then on to Skem Secondary School. My memories are of my wonderful childhood, that was spent walking and playing all around the fields that surrounded our house.
When I was older I would cycle through back Digmoor to Moorside Farm where my friend lived, and we would spend hours on the Moss. I remember the ASlmond family, who lived at Digmoor Hall before it was demolished, and relatives at Worthington House Farm nearby.
I love to see the old photos on the web sites as they bring back happy memories.
Roby Mill School
I attended Roby Mill School. Miss Simm was my teacher. She caught the bus to the monument (Vicarage Corner), and walked down College Road picking pupils up along the way. It was almost 1 mile in distance, she did this twice a day every school day. Ash Wednesday, Good Friday etc we were expected to attend Upholland parish church (St Thomas's). Mrs Webster was the head teacher and lived a few doors away from us. Mary Wilkinson was my best friend but moved back to Liverpool.
