Standford .

A Memory of Standford.

I lived in Standford from 1934 to 1956. Many memories of growing up in this small village with a river and ford as a main attraction. Being brought up on a farm the countryside was (and is) very much in my blood. In the past 30 or 40 years the character of the village has changed completely with the influx of families using it as a dormitory for work in London and elsewhere. No longer the village I knew sadly, where the closely knit community resembled a family and pleasures were simple and encompassed the beauty of the countryside.

The Canadian forces stationed in Bordon used the ford at Headley Mill to was their vehicles during WW2. Great entertainment for us kids. Happy Days.
