More about this scene

This huge nine-storey mill can be seen for miles. Built in 1859, it replaced another from the 1700s which burnt down. It had its own granary, and on the right we can see part of the miller's house, a very substantial building, so he must have been doing well. In this picture the mill looks forlorn without its sails, but it was restored to its full glory in 1976.
