RE: RE: Bygone Years

I was born on Meden Bank, Stanton Hill but when the houses were condemned and flattened we moved and I grew up on Cowpes Close. I remember Birkhead and Evans shop, Randals (?) carpet shop, Scotts (was also the horse drawn ice cream man) and the Institute, Infant and Junior schools, all on Stanton Hill. Girls Grammar School was at the top of Park Street Sutton. There was a shop on Low Street called Rowles which always had a Santa's Grotto every year. There was Cowpes Farm on the corner of Carsic Road and Stoneyford Road. I remember the bandstand on Sutton Lawn and the paddle boats and row boats and the paddling pool. Dog and Duck pub on corner of Station Road and High Pavement. The Kings and Portland cinema's. I can remember going potato picking at a farm up Old Teversal for 10 shillings for a whole week's work. The Revolution disco on Outram Street which changed to The Pyracoustic. Sutton Town FC playing field is now Asda car park, Asda used to be Fine Fayre supermarket. Does all this jog any memories?
