More about this scene

Bathers beware! In the late 1950s, prompted by the highly visible contamination of the coastline, scientists undertook an extensive survey of the problem. The area was a victim of the remarkable tidal flow of the Severn, which caused a horrific amount of raw sewage to float back to shore. Shocked by its findings, the 1964 report described the situation as 'a salutary reflection on our sense of values as a civilised community'.

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

My Mum was discharged from Sully Hospital after a long stay being treated for TB. Mum, Dad, me and my brother stayed here for a period of time to allow my mum to recuperate. I was about 3 yreas old, my brother 5 years. I can remember the local school being taught on the beach. My Mum's name was Gwynifer Thomas.
