More about this scene

Many years before D G Sheppard opened his Orchard Stores, an entrepreneur named Alfred Reader had set up his cricket and hockey ball factory in the 1820s. To reach this village one can cross a medieval ragstone bridge across the River Medway. The Vicar of St Peter and St Paul's Church, James Ramsay, played a major part in ensuring the abolition of slavery. He died in 1789.
