More about this scene

The name evokes the dukedom's historic link with the area. Records describe the local church in 1089 as a fragment of what it was. The abbey was dissolved in 1539, and the property was given to the Earl of Bedford. Partly demolishing it, he showed his enthusiasm for education by donating stone towards building Trinity and Corpus Christi Colleges, Cambridge. The school is a fitting reminder.
