Mill Street

I was born at 22 Mill Street in 1941 and attended Fairy Street School from 1945-1951 and later Gallowflat from 1951-1955.

Christmas 2010

My daughter bought me the book 'Old Rutherglen' by Rhona Wilson. On page19 is the old Rhul cinema where I attended my first film. 'The Wizard of Oz'. I fell asleep, I was only 4. It is now compulsory viewing for my children and grandchildren.

Lindsay

As a small child, in 1962 I visited Neilston with my mother and sister from Canada.
Her name was Annie Lindsay and was the parents of Margaret Roberston Lindsay and Anthony Lindsay of Neilston. My mother was expecting my younger sister and due to the pregancy had to remain in Scotland until the birth of the baby. I remember playing and seeing a big hill out front of there home. They lived on 5 Manse Road, Neilston, Scotland. We used to visit a small stream with my Uncle Joe and it seemed to be a small waterfall but I am unsure of the name of this location. I remember by PAPA making a fire and he would bring us GOLD chocolate pennies in a net bag at the end of each week for a treat.

NEILSTON - MY HOME

I was born and grew up in Neilston with my twin sister and brother. My mother had also been born there. Although I moved to Barrhead for a few years I spent so much time going up the hill to Neilston I thought it was time I moved back with my family.

I'm glad I did. My husband and family love the village as much as I do.

Looking Back

I moved here from Glasgow in 1968. We lived in Donaldson Drive. I had 2 brothers, Brian and Archie. My name is Linda Duke. I also lived with my granny in Fulbar Lane during school holidays. I went to Reenfrew High School in 1968. If you remember me please get in touch, I would love to hear from you.

The Norfolk Family Settle in East Kilbride

Work brought me to Scotland in 1975 and I needed to live within commuting distance of the Bank of England branch in Glasgow. Elizabeth and I looked around the south side of the City and fell in love with a beautifully restored eighteenth century style weavers cottage in Calderwood, East Kilbride. A new town is a lovely place to live when you are young and we loved it. Our son was born in 1977 and altogether we had three happy years living in Scotland before work made us move home yet again! We were very sorry to leave our lovely cottage home behind, and the garden which Elizabeth designed and built. Happily our dear neighbours also liked our wee house and bought it from us to make it their home. We have stayed in touch with them all these years as they became our son David's godparents. Just recently they invited us to visit and it was so nice to go into our old home and see it so... Read more
