Grange Road!

A Memory of Thornton Heath.

My Dad had a baker and Confectioners shop in the middle of Grange Road at the north end of Grange Park. "Budds Bakery" I was born there on October 1940, and the family moved to Mitcham in 1950.

I remember the Budd family bakers shop in Wolseley Road, Mitcham Junction. I believe it was opposite a timber yard. In the same road were several greenhouse type structures growing watercress. I went to school in Hackbridge and remember Roy Budd playing the piano in the infant school at the age of five. For those who don't know of him, he was a child genius who taught himself to play at the age of about three and went on to be a brilliant musician and film music composer.
Some time in the 1950's the watercress beds and the bakers shop together with some large houses were pulled down to make way for flats at which time Roy and his family moved away and I lost contact.
