Townhill 1950s

A Memory of Townhill.

I moved to 4a Crawford place in 1951 aged 5 Townhill was my first school and remember headmistress as Johnstone ? headmaster was Mr Wilson and lived in school grounds. We went to the old church hall for our school meals. The Sutherlands and Coventrys lived next door with Skinners across the road.Had great memories playing up the woods and in the park and the "Ashy bing" next to the park we also ventured to the Loch and played in the burn that came from the Power Station. Lots to do in Townhill when younger.

Hi Kenneth
it was lovely to read your account of Crawford Place. I think i may be a descendant of one of the younger Skinner sons, George. My grandad died in 1952 and that was his last address.
I am in the process of compiling our family tree and it would be lovely if you have any memories of your time there. I never viited my Gran there as by the time i was bonrn she had moved to the main St and in her final days lived in forest road.
I was in Townhill last year visiting my uncle who still lives there and my younger brother and i had a drive around but we were young when we moved to england so our memories are not that clear.
Though i do remember spending afternoons at the library with my uncles Jim and Robbie reading comics etc while my older brother and cousin played snooker. i also have very clear memories of going to the chip shop on the main street
