Treboul, 1861 To 1925
A Memory of Treboul.
William Paige and his 12 chidren were the first occupiers of the new Treboul House and farm in 1861, his son Richard Edwin Paige JP took over the house and farm, with adjoining farms Criffle and Berry, in about 1875 and was there until 1905 when his eldest son William Paige Jnr. took over. William Junior retired in 1925 and the prizewinning herd of pedigree South Devon Cattle was then dispersed so 3 generations lived and farmed here.
The Paige family were landowners from the South Hams area of Devon but as farmers specialising in breeding pedigree cattle and sheep, were attracted to Treboul by its proximity to the then new St Germans railway station which enable them to send their cattle to auctions such as the one in Totnes.
R.E.Paige was a well known JP. and Cornwall County councillor as well as chairman of the local Board of Guardians, and a close confidant of the then Earl of St.Germans.
