Stoke Lyne School
I lived in Tusmore from about 1950 to Nov 1953 when we emigrated to New Zealand. I used to travel in a small van across Tusmore Park to school. Miss Saville was the teacher and my mother worked as her assistant for a few months. I visited Miss Saville in her retirement whilst in the UK in 1962. A TV was brought in for us to watch the Queen's coronation and that was the first time I saw television. I recall not liking the school dinners and every new child was initiated by having to stand all alone on the shoe grating against the wall before the other children started to make friends. It was awful. My mother went to the Women's Institute at Tusmore House and I was the sailor for them in a show. Names which come to mind are my friend, Fenella, who lived in a cottage on the Estate and the English boys who lived near me in a house which had a turret tower. There was a large chestnut tree by the school and we liked having conker fights! The van's drop-off point was outside the village shop. I am visiting Tusmore and Buckinghamshire in May (2011) from NZ with the aim of going down memory lane revisitng my childhood there up until the age of 8. I wonder where my contempories are now?

RE: RE: Stoke Lyne School
I went to Stoke Lyne School primary school, about 1959/60. Miss Saville was still the head teacher, and there was another teacher called Miss Ansell. I remember other pupils, Susan Turzak, Anne Miller, Poppy Squires, Pat and John Jones and Wendy Burnham. I remember we used to go into Miss Savilles house to watch some school programmes. We had school dinners - I remember having pink semolina which I hated. I sat all afternoon with a plate of that in front of me as I would not eat it!!!! We used to do country dancing and used to have sports day further up in Stoke Lyne in a field. I remember also being in the brownies, and attending the wedding of our brown owl, Rita I think she was called. It was at Stoke Lyne church. There used to be a shop just before we got to school at the top of a hill. I lived in Tusmore Park at the time. Good memories. My name at the time was Susan Barnsley.

School dinners - I remember sitting with a plate in front of me - if you did not eat all your dinner!!!! Country dancing and we used to have sports day further up in Stoke Lyne in a field with a climbing frame that I got stuck on at the top. I was in the brownies at Hethe and went to Stoke Lyne church. There used to be a shop just before we got to school at the top of a hill and the pub. I lived on Baynards Green Farm and had friends at Tusmore Park at the time. Mr and Mrs Davies, one family we often visited - good memories. I remember a big house in Stoke Lynne and often the family there would let us all use their outdoor swimming pool, those were the days. Nearby was Swift House, Lady Payton-----Rhonda Sirett as was.
