The River 1903 Amid a grove of tall poplars on the banks of the River Stort are the weather- boarded malting mills, which helped to lay the foundation of the town's prosperity following the passing of the Stort Navigation Act of 1768. They were among eighty such enterprises in the county, and much of their product was utilised by the small local breweries, as well as being despatched to London.

My parents, Peggy and Stan Pinner, moved to Hunsdon from Leyton in 1957. Stan's family was from Wyddial and Aspenden, so Hunsdon was a good fit for them. A small estate was being erected on Wicklands Road and they bought number 3. Our next door neighbours were  the Duddys, other neighbours were the Porters, the Joyces, the Fergusons, the Richardsons and the Normans. The local vicar was Mr Pumphrey. The local ...see more
