My Youth In Uxbridge.

A Memory of Uxbridge.

I lived in Cherry Grove in Hillingdon until 1965, I went to Hillingdon Primary School then Evelyns Secondary School, when I left school I work for a Company called H.J. Smarts at the back of Uxbridge Station. I have fond memories of Uxbridge. I used to go to Burton's Dance hall on Tuesday, Fridays, and Saturdays, I loved to dance, and listen to Brian Poole and the Tremoles and Cliff Bennet and the Rebel 's. I also went to RAF Base on Monday,s but it was not us good as Burtons. I used to go to the Cinemas on Sunday either to the Oden or the Regal. it was lovely reading everybody fond memories of Uxbridge, It brought back so many memories. Thank You. I have been back a few times but it has changed so much. Yvonne Beasley.

I & my sister both went to Hillingdon Primary School,(I seem to remember a classmate called Anthony Beasley!)after I went to Abbotsfield School & my sister to The Greenway School.
My family left to go to live in Eastbourne in 1959 but as I was at that time an Asst Director at Pinewood Studios & many others I stayed in the Uxbridge area until 1964.(I have lived in the South of France for the last 35 years & 2 weeks ago after more than 50 years returned to Uxbridge & Hillingdon to show my son(who was born in France who with his work has been posted to Northwood Hills for 3 years & is now living with his Wife in West Ruslip)my childhood & youthful haunts).
What have they done to Uxbridge????Its just HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!

I remember Smarts lorries they were removals I remember. Also had a branch in West Ealing.
I used to go to Burton's dance hall too! Fridays was Steve Maxted night and Saturday was for groups. Desmond Dekker, The Amboy Dukes, Joyce Bond, just so many. We used to go to the Byron in Greenford too as well as the occasional night at Bourne School where I remember seeing the Move.

I have also lived abroad for several years but Uxbridge was ruined way before I left. It was so picturesque when I was a kid. I can just about remember my dad taking me to all three stations and riding on the trains.
