The Other Coronation At Collingwood!
A Memory of Wallington.
My memories of Collingwood began with my very first day there, in 1948, when I was l was left alone in a big empty hall, not knowing what to do! Eventually one of the teachers came in, saying crossly, " Why are you crying?" and not listening to the answer!
I believe I ended up having a good education (maybe being scared all the time helped !) and my favourite memory of the school was in June 1952, when the dozen or so of us who had passed the 11plus to go to grammar school were invited into Mrs. Hollis' study to sit on the floor in front of her tiny television to watch the Coronation of her Majesty the Queen.
Absolute magic!
