A Great Childhood In Walton

A Memory of Walton-on-Thames.

I spent my childhood in Walton to the age of 20 when I got married. I have so many happy memories that I have written my biography up to the age of 15, describing so many of the things I did with friends and the places in Walton that were relevant. One of the strangest activities was following fire engines to fires. Anyone who lived in Walton in the 50's and 60's will remember the siren that went off calling the reserve firemen to the fire station. That was our cue to get on our bikes and go to the fires. We also spent a great deal of time over the reservoir before it's construction was resumed following the wartime delay.
I also remember the 'old tin school' which at the time was called East Walton Council School, I only spent one term in it I think, but I remember the rain beating deafeningly on the tin roof. - Keith Wicks

I too spent my childhood in Walton, from 1944-1965 .We moved back to Walton in 2013. I have many happy memories. Just been for a walk through the Heart shopping centre and through the woods where I used to climb the trees with my friends. I was surprised how much open space is still there near the cricket club. I remember there used to be a hockey club there. It was behind my old junior school. Happy days, shame so many old buildings have gone
