So Many Memories

A Memory of Wargrave.

My family arrived in Wargrave just after the war. We moved into a flat above the Post Office/ Telephone Exchange. Dad was a caretaker operator.
Things I remember about the village were of course the nearby river, the houses so different from those we lived in in Reading during the war. Gilkes Garage next door but one. The adventures we had - down the triangle and riding bikes along the gully, climbing trees, fishing, crossing the river by ferry. Camps Pool, Backsideans, Willow Lane and the annual floods. The high street, with the shops and of course the schools, Infants was in Victoria Road, just in front of the Fire Station . The Rec where we played football and cricket. To me in those early days Wargrave was an adventure playground.
