The Welling Mods: Long Gone But Never Forgotten

A Memory of Welling.

We were like one huge crazy family, not only from Welling, but also from the surrounding towns of Blackfen, Bexleyheath, Crayford, Dartford, Eltham, Plumstead and Woolwich - even as far as from the other side of London - travelling around the club and dance hall circuit, many on scooters, in pursuit of eternal pleasure and happiness. Here in remembrance of that great Sixties era are their names:

Hi Bernie, your piece really brought back some memories. Saturday nights in the Plogh and then up to the Inferno. If only we could do it all over again. Cliff.
Hi Cliff,
Great to hear from you after all these years. Yes, they were the best of times. I wonder what everyone we knew are doing now?
Take care,
Bernie
Hi Bernie, I pretty much lost contact with everyone although I didn't leave Welling until 1986. I did see Charlie Large , that's Geoff's dad in the late '70's and he told me that Geoff worked in the parks and listened to his music and was still pals with Bob and living in Abbey Wood.

I can add a few names to that list. Peter Judge Jim Carroll Toshie Brown. Spent lots of happy times at the Inferno and remember well when it burnt down. Was in the habit of going there Sunday night direct from the Flamingo Sunday afternoon session at Wardour Street. Met a girlfriend at Charing Cross who told me it has burnt down the night before and I thought she was on a wind up. My face must have been a picture as my train pulled into Welling Station. Cheers to all Les Hammond
