The Grove School
A Memory of Wem.
I went to the Grove in 1954, I think, as a weekly boarder. I loved Flo Upton's drama and dance classes and was intimidated by Mrs Boronov's acerbic piano teaching style. Anybody else remember doing Midsummer Night's Dream? I think I was one of the fairies though I can't remember which one.Miss Freeman, the headmistress, was scary. Thank heaven she never found out about our midnight feasts! Anybody remember them? I would like to trace a girl perhaps 7 years older than me...Stephanie Twinberrow....I remember we'd walk through Wem in a crocodile and have observation tests when we got back to school. I always remember there was an advert for Spillers' grain on the side of the old mill..My Mum, Matron Cox, was there too from about 1955. Sadly, she died 3 years ago but readers may remember her... Do write back! Sue Bilsborough (Cox then)
