Lyon Park Junior School Wembley 1957/1960

A Memory of Wembley.

I remember my carefree days at Lyon Park. Mr Osbourne was a lovely teacher and was patient and kind although I was less happy with Miss Batchelor. I found these two school photos and wondered if they might jog some memories. I remember Juliana Rogers who was half German and had a sister Christina. They also lived in Heather Park Drive. These names also come to mind: Carol Newton, Susan Thompson or Thomas and Leslie, Marjorie and Pamela. I remember the grassed over air raid shelters which were out of bounds but we still used to play in them; also the monkey bars. Outside the school there was Tuckers the sweetshop where we bought our palm toffees, banana split and blackjacks. On the parade of shops there was a fish shop, greengrocers, post office, Garners the bakers, the butchers, Hawkins the grocers, a chemist, a hairdressers and cleaners. Everything was there. opposite was the Heather pub and my cousin Derek married Christine, the landlord's daughter.
On a Sunday we would go to Sunday school in a hut and sing hymns.
If anyone recognises themselves in the photos, it would be great to share some memories.

Hi, Like you fond memories of Lyon Park School and the shops on Heather Park Parade. I lived in the Grange which backed onto the top part of Heath Park Drive. Like you I remember all the shops and my mother worked in both the post office and the bakers. I lived at the Grange from 1952 to 67 when I married and moved to Suffolk. Miss Batchelor was also my teacher and I felt her bark was worse than her bite. I then attended Alperton Girls school with fond memories. Still meet up with a group of girls from my year. Do you remember the gypsy field where we played for hours. My mother told me that it was covered in air raid shelters during the war. One problem I had was I could not see or any reference to the photos you mentioned. Regards Joy Barrass (now Malyon)
Joy was at Lyon Park the same time as myself, happy memory. I married at St James, Stanley Avenue and moved to Perivale, but then moved to rural Dorset but never been back, as have such wonderful memories of growing up

I went to Lyon Park Juniors and probaly have more memories than others as i was born in 1946 in Stanley Park Drive, you could see the back of the houses if you stood in the top playground and looked across the playing field.
I remember the shops and most of the names, and some of the owners were family friends. The pub was the Heather Park Hotel, now i think an Indian Restaurant.
Would like to go back someday and see the changes..Now living in Yorkshire so maybe awhile before that happens because of Covid-19.
Anne Parsons,
I also attended Lyon Park Juniors.I was born 1946 so remember a quite alot about the area.I was born and raised in Stanley Park Drive just up the top end of Stanley Avenue.
My sister was married at St James's Church, but in the original Church...I went back to see it had gone and a new one built.
Any info on this would be appreciated.
