More about this scene

The Normans built a church in Westham after the Conqueror had landed nearby. Priesthawes House was built from stone taken from nearby Pevensey?Castle. The local coastline is noted for Martello coastal defence towers, dating from the Napoleonic Wars. In the photograph we can see Dent's, Pageant House, selling food and fancy goods; the other shop is a newsagent, stationer and tobacconist. The main road is busy with traffic - here an Austin A40 car heads out along the coast road. The scene has now changed a little: the newsagents are still trading, and the other shop has been converted to a house.
