Childhood Memories

A Memory of Basingstoke.

My parents lived at 233 Winchester Rd but moved to Wilmslow in 1948. My grandparents (Herbert and Mabel Higgs) lived at 4 Fairfields Rd (now a private hotel) having previously lived at Red Gables,Crossborough Hill. I have many happy memories of the old town,Wote St (griffins Butchers shop) Nutts news agency and the old Wilts and Dorset busdepot where I used to look at the buses parked there. Hi Richard

Our paths must have crossed. My grandmother lived in the house at the corner of Fairfields Road and Cliddesden Road. We frequently stayed with her. In fact we lived there for a time during the war. I went to the school at the top end of Fairfields Road. Regards. Brian Butler, Cardiff.
