Schooldays At Bexley Tech In Townley Rd, 1961 66,

A Memory of Bexleyheath.

I was at Hall Place for a year in 1961, originally at Brook Street girls school, Northumberland Heath. I loved it there, was there recently remembering happy days. At the main school in Townley Rd I had Mrs. Richards/Richardson for French who commented on my 'real' French accent, gained through living in France for all of the summer of '62. I decided to stay on for the 6th form to do 'A' level GCE, unfortunately my studies halted abruptly during the last week of November 65 when having been ill at home with a tremendous headache and a bad bout of sinusitis, I was blue-lighted unconscious to the Brook Hospital at the bottom of Shooters Hill. It was discovered that I had several brain abcesses, caused by infection. I had about 8 operations plus an unexpected stroke caused when an abcess suddenly erupted causing pressure on the blood vessels, leaving me paralysed on my left side; I was later told the school prayed for me in assembly, led by Miss Fuller. I arrived back at school in April 66 with Twiggy-like short hair where it had all been shaved off for the operations. Somehow I managed to cram for the exams, getting top marks in English and French plus a good mark in history. After leaving school I applied to study nursing, working in Hides dept. store until I began training in January 1967, My name then was Ruby Little, but I legally changed my first name to Vikki and now aged 69, live very comfortably with my darling husband and our 2 terriers; I had 2 daughters and now have 3 granddaughters, 1 grandson and a little great grandson. I've travelled to Canada, Russia, Estonia, Scandinavia and most of Europe. I live in Birchington, a coastal village in the Isle of Thanet with green fields on one side of our house, the channel on the other, From school I remember Susan Beer, both little and big Barbara Williamses, Mrs Taylor and Miss Gill, Miss Skews and of course Miss Fuller; good happy days.
