Mrs Loach

A Memory of Bradley.

Over the road from the pub was were we used to have to go to mrs loaches .It was a tiny little shop,
Could my mum have a quarter of boiled ham.the reply would be no but I've got some nice cheese.or tell your mother we've got some nice bananas.it was such a funny little shop .Hilda came the shrill voice get worseys kid some nice boiled ham.mrs loach writ on her strange counter made of white tin,I used to wonder why she just couldn't add up anything in her head.watching her put all her prices down it was like a blackboard only white. You didn't argue with Mrs loach, she was always right, and the cat was always asleep on top of the loose sweets in the window.I wonder how she would get on nowadays mind you give her her due she was always washing her hands and no one else was allowed to serve or dare they even think of handling the cash. She was a one off super trader of her day.You could always rely on Loaches back door, even on a Sunday ."please can my mum have some bread and 20cigs for my dad sorry for bothering but it's very urgent"
Mother it's the worsey kids can they have some bread and some fags for Ernie ...they always had to check first,
Blimey imagine doing that now.
