A Memory of Brentford.

What a wonderful site. I came across it while researching an accompanying book for my sister's planned 90 birthday Tour of Brentford in June this year. We lived in Brentford from around 1930 until 1976 when our mother died. They were eventful, not to say interesting times. My sister and I both attended Ealing Road Junior (Head Mistress, Mrs Hennig ruled with an iron hand in a velvet glove); Eileen went to the girl's senior school in Clifden Road, while I made it, as the 'brains' of the family to Chiswick County. I actually started at the Bluebird school in Clifden Road in the grounds of the girl's school, above.

Who are we? Eileen Warwick nee BURKE,born 1925 and Terry Burke born 1934
We lived in Brook Road and from 1939 in Braemar Road. Dad, George Burke, was Secretary of the local branch of the Boilermakers Union and Chairman of the Chiswick and District Sunday Football League and a leading referee who would spin in his grave at the standard of refereeing and player behaviour today.

Up the Bees In 1946/7 although relegated Brentford FC fielded 10 'proper' international footballers; the 'overseas players were Irish, Bill Gorman, Joe Crozier, (Scotland) and Dai Hopkins (Wales).
The only non international was No 9 Len Townsend because Tommy Lawton had the England shirt.
Ah, happy days

This can only be a starter, as breakfast calls, but I will return with our memories of Brentford later.

I was brought up in Ealing but my dad's football team was Brentford. I remember the rattle he used to take and his red and white scarf. barbara Evans.
