Buckhurst Hill 1947 1962
A Memory of Buckhurst Hill.
I was born in London,my parents Winifred and Charles Jestice bought a brand new house in Rous Road in 1946/47 ,I was 6months old.
I went to St Johns primary school, and then onto The Brook Secondary Modern Loughton at age 11.
My younger brother Ian went to White Bridge primary and then onto The Technical College in Chigwell.
I remember many of the places mentioned in other folks memories, although I don't recognise any of the names.
I sang in the church choir at St Stevens and was a brownie there along with my best friend Jennifer Mackay who lived in Roding Lane.
We spent many a happy hour in Knighton woods and the fields outside our back garden .
A couple of the shops not mentioned are Lushers,Mrs Lusher sold wool and haberdashery. The International stores, where we brought all our grocery stores, and the wonderful fish and chip shop, where he gave children bags of scratchings for if I remember 3d.
The cottage hospital mentioned in previous messages, eventually became a hospice I think.
I did a paper round for the paper shop that was on the lower end of Queens road and Princes road.cant remember the name, there are only 2real memories of the shop, one he didn't pay as much as the shop further up the road, and I had a round that included many of the roads on the hill going up to the high road.
In 1963 I left to begin my nurse training in London, my brother left for America, both my parents, who for many years were the local district nurses, died in the 70s.

Does anyone remember the Priestlys or Guy and Martin Rogers who lived in Rous Road?
I live in Canada now.
Guy has passed away. Elaine P and Martin Rogers both live in Oxfordshire
Have you got a Facebook account? I would like a chin wag.
I live in Portugal now, with my husband Phillip Drew
Hope to talk to you soon
Ruth Amsel lived next door other side nr 5 with her brother (I cannot recall his name).
I didn't realise your brother Ian lives in the States. Doesn't surprise me though because he was clever and well technical. Talking of which, when I passed my 13+ I wanted to move to West Hatch Tech because Ian was there but Parents had other ideas!
Hope life is being kind to you and yours.
