Embassy
I believe that this cinema was called the Odeon before the Embassy. As a boy growing up I had the choice of going to Saturday morning pictures at the Grand in Skinner Street for sixpence (2.5 pence ) or the Odeon for ninepence (4 pence). At the Odeon you got in free on your birthday. Oh, such innocent times.

RE: RE: Embassy
Yes, that was in fact the Odeon cinema - and slightly further up the slope was my old school, Gillingham Technical High School. The cinema sticks in my memory for two reasons. We had a school outing to see Cecil B DeMille's "The Ten Commandments" starring Charlton Heston. I remember the Red Sea parting! Also Gillingham Tech was always short of space and what was the restaurant area above the Odeon foyer was converted into two classrooms which the school used. It was often a very dramatic entrance in the morning as one could often hear a blockbuster being run through before the matinee.
