Felmongers was begun in 1950, and not finished until 1956. The early settlers had to battle with endless mud and builders' mess. The houses were designed by Featherstone, and were very attractive with white walls and dark roofs. Wherever possible, mature tress were kept, and if necessary new ones were planted.
