to a new life

My greatgrandfather Patrick Matthews, his second wife Mary Ann (Smith) together with their daughter Rose sailed on the maiden voyage of the Majestic to New York in April 1890. Patrick was from Cootehill, CountyCavan, Ireland. In 2005 I found his descendants living in Florida. My husband and I flew to America for a holiday and met our new cousins.

RE: to a new life

My paternal grandfather, Jacob Johnsen (took the last name Nokleberg in America), was passenger #7 on the SS Majestic when it made one of its last voyages to New York from Liverpool, England on March 6, 1907. He arrived in New York City on March 14, 1907 at the age of 20 years with $105 in his pocket.

RE: to a new life

Thank you for your comment. It took me twenty years on and off to research my Irish/English/American family history with the very satisfying results of meeting distant relatives and having my work published in The Family Tree Magazine.
Which European Country did your grandfather travel from?
