I used to walk along Simpsons Road to go to school.I remember all the men going to the station wore suits,bowler hats and carried rolled umbrellas and briefcases.There was a dairy shop and a Post Office run by Fred and Doris (I'm pretty sure those were their names) Doris's twin sister was 'Stella' the hairdressers in the High Street.The shoe mender was there too,at the top on the other side of the road.
Absolutely right Vicki, as soon as they built that high rise there was a wind tunnel effect. Before that there was a lane that cut the corner down to Simpsons Road and Westmoreland Road - it had some interesting little shops on it including an aquarium and a junk shop.
This photo takes me back to when I was 5 years old and used to go to the supermarket in the Westmoreland Centre at Bromley South with my mum. It always seemed to be windy there, although I expect this is just the only time I remember being there.
