Nostalgic memories of Rhymney's local history

Share your own memories of Rhymney and read what others have said

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our web site to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was when the photographs in our archive were taken. From brief one-liners explaining a little bit more about the image depicted, to great, in-depth accounts of a childhood when things were rather different than today (and everything inbetween!). We've had many contributors recognising themselves or loved ones in our photographs.

Why not add your memory today and become part of our Memories Community to help others in the future delve back into their past.

When I was a young lad I could choose between 2 cinema's and had many outdoor activities to choose from, unlike today children seem more interested in their phones and computers. It is very sad to see the town going down hill, the local post office closed down recently which was one place where you met your friends on pension day. But on the good side foster's café is back open with donegan at the helm.

Hi Has anyone got any memories of the Royal Hotel, Rhymney and of the Lewis family who ran it until Vic Lewis died in 1956? I am researching my husband's family history and he was born in that pub!! Thank you.
The cinema on the right was the venue for our Saturday morning adventures. 3d to get in, all sweets half normal price. Next to the cinema is the hardware store. Further up on the left is the old toyshop and newsagents ( I used to do a paper round for them). Finally, about half way up on the right is the street that leads to the park.
