Keith, I didn't know you, but I, too, went to Pettits Lane school, and was on the girls' side! from 1956-1961. I remember the headmistress and headmaster's offices used to be in the centre where the boys and girls sides met. so., the only redeeming thing about being sent to their office was the fact that we could spy on the boys!! There was a 'quadrant' open square in the centre of the school which was nice. Our headmistress was Miss Hill. I used to live on Pretoria road and and went to London Road junior school prior to Pettits but used to walk past Mawney road school and the baths to go into town. Also used to walk to and from school (Pettits Lane) every day with friends. Hope you find some old classmates here! Violet Cayton (nee May)
Hi I used to walk to school Pettis lane every day we also looked at the girls side can you remember any of the girls the North twins boys were popular regards keith
Sorry, can't remember too many names, mostly just Christian names - my friends were Carole Holmes, Sylvia Mann and Andrea? I remember a Petra Singleton, Eileen Horseman, and a Marilyn ?
But, it was a large school eh?
I was not bad looking..had nice clothes..and walked to school every day 1958 or 1959 till 1963. In about 1962 out came a song called Bobbys Girl !! My name being rob..A lovely buxom girl from mashiters Hill used to sing it to me.Made me blush at the time. Shame as she was lovely. Anyway took her one day on the back of my motorbike riding on fields at Pinewoods , north Collier Row..Near Orange tree pub and Kings hill.
I was so shy and did not even kiss so she dumped me.. shame as later I overcame my shyness and had many lovely girlfriends. But she was my first that never quite happened... Funny memories..
Rob Smart.
I remember now..She was a friend with Carol Sankey....she went with my mate Bill..That did not last either..he was probably the same.. too shy for these teenage girls..!!
I love stories like yours, I lived in Mildmay Road went to Mawney Road school then Pettits 55 to 59. Loved going to Mawny Baths for a swim.
I was at Pettits from 55 to 59 I thought the headmistress was Miss Henn My teacher was Mrs Hounsell but favourite was Mrs Rogers. (Music) We had to address teachers as Madam. Happy days
I started at pettits lane boys school about 1961-1963 left in June, we came back to Romford after living in Bournemouth for three years, I also went to Mawney Road infants and juniors school when then living Oak Street, but when at pettits my teacher was Harry Price a great guy and owe him a great deal, I did not mix with the girls school at pettits but do recall a girl named Carol Sankey maybe one of my mates girl friends, but I was more into motor bikes at the time, unfortunately got banned for six months just after my sixteenth birthday so used to have to cycle to school until I left, choked as my mates were on motorbikes and scooters by that time, I recall a Howard Richards, Melvin Cockran John...,Dave Pritchard , and Rob Smart, please contact me via site my brother was a couple of years above me at Pettits some may recall him Gregory Cox
Does any one have photos keithtemple
