My Salford Life
A Memory of Salford.
I was born in West Park St in 1939. I went to Ordsall school in Taylorson St.I went to St Clements Church and sang in the Choir .I was The Rose Queen in 1953.My dad was called Jim Cartwright and he played the piano at weekends in the local pubs.I have wonderful memories of my childhood .we spent many hours playing in Ordsall Park.We used to roller skate on Cavendish St because it was not cobbled like most of the streets ,it was concrete.
We had a different shop on every corner, there were no supermarkets then .All the neighbours were called 'auntie'. People cared for one another in those days. You could knock on any doors if you had a problem. It was very sad when they demolished the area .I remember the Blitz .My grandma had a cellar and we used to go down and sit on the steps until the ' All Clear' sounded. We used to play on the bomb sites when it was over.
I am now 82 and will never forget my time in Ordsall.
Myra Greengalgh nee Cartwright.
