Visiting Salford Circa 1955 60

A Memory of Salford.

My Grandparents Henry and Alice Dorning lived on Brighton Street which on trying to trace the existence of has proved to be a struggle. I remember visiting them with my parents at the age of 5-9 years of and at the time was not aware that they were considered as slums. I really enjoyed my visits to Salford. My Granddad taking me to watch Manchester United and to return the favour I would run errands for him, like going to the corner shop to get a jug of ale, (yes, at such a young age, couldn't get away with that now!).
My Granddad did odd jobs like painting and decorating and even told me stories of clearing rat infested warehouses on the docks. Anything to put food on the table it would seem.
My Grandparents house was a 2 bedroom terrace, no bathroom and and outside toilet next to the coal scullery. Washing in the kitchen sink with water boiled on the stove. A bath was the good old tin bath in front of the front room fire. Most of the street were proud of their places and a regular routine of scrubbing and mansion polishing the front door step was at least a weekly activity.
I am trying to fill in gaps in my life and this being one of them but after trawling through many of my parents black and white photos of that era there are believe or not no pictures inside this house or outside of the this area.
My parents and I visited as much as was possible but we lived in London and that journey on just A and B roads was quite a long and laborious trip.
Is there anyone out there has any recollection of this neighbourhood would love to hear from you.
