RE CHILDRENS HOME
My dad Roy Taylor was at a childrens' home. He never knew whether it was called Rodbrough or Roxborough House either. He would have been there in the 1950s. He often mentions The Black Boys School which was as it was known and was nearby. I will ask him what else he remembers.

RE: RE: RE CHILDRENS HOME
I'm not sure whether it once was a children's home, but Roxborough House was a youth centre when our boys were here in the late 1970s. I believe that it must have replaced the building in which your father spent his early years. The house would have been down a short lane at the top of Nelson Street, just where that road joins Castle Street and Middle Street. The first building along Castle Street is Black Boys School (now flats) and the next is now called Stroud Valley School built, at about the same time as ours, in the late 1800s. More information on the Digital Stroud web-site - here's the page for Black Boys School: http://www.digitalstroud.co.uk/living.php?pageid=250&topid=3&pid=207 Anyone interested in Bowbridge, The Field/s and Field House and all the properties on what was The Field estate should hasten along to this web-site: http://www.johnhearfield.com/House/Field_Estate_2010.htm
