Nostalgic memories of Sunningdale's local history

Share your own memories of Sunningdale and read what others have said

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our web site to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was when the photographs in our archive were taken. From brief one-liners explaining a little bit more about the image depicted, to great, in-depth accounts of a childhood when things were rather different than today (and everything inbetween!). We've had many contributors recognising themselves or loved ones in our photographs.

Why not add your memory today and become part of our Memories Community to help others in the future delve back into their past.

I was born in 1948 and lived just on the corner of London Rd and Broomhall Lane in a large house converted into flats called Holmwood. My dad was a milkman at Clifford dairies in London Road just past the Station along with my Grandfather who lived in Broomhall Lane in the first cottage called Holmwood Cottage. I used to walk to Holy Trinity school with friends some who lived at Broomhall Farm. We used to run ...see more
I`m afraid this photo is not Station road but it is in fact London road and to the right of it were two coal yards Drake and Mount and Fear Bros. Sleet and Stearns were in Heather Drive I think which was off Chobham Road just before the railway bridge. Thank you for the information - our records have now been updated, Editor.
I was born in Coworth rd, number 2 which is opposite the shop, I remember the shops well. The post office was run by the 2 Miss Whites and the VG Stores was run by the Freemans, brothers who were partially sighted. Later on the shop was run by The Tates and I worked for them. At the top of Coworth rd was a fishmongers and a butchers. My mother used to send me to buy sixpenneth of fish. There was another shop ...see more

My sister Gean used to work with horses at Broomhill Farm, she came to pick me up from school one day on a horse, hauled me up and gave me a lift home (a lovely memory). The school raised enough funds to have ...see more
My father worked in the fishmongers (just off this picture). When I was a child (4 in 1955) I would go to the sweet shop - on the left. There was a dairy, bakers and chemist among the local traders. I can still recall the smeall of the coal being delivered to the coal yard - Sleet & Stearn.
