More about this scene
The Lamb Hotel, in the centre of the picture, was built in 1861, and is currently being converted into flats. The first inn of that name in the street was established in 1552 by William Chatterton, once Groom in Ordinary to Queen Mary. It was later used as their headquarters by the Parliamentary forces during the siege of the town in the Civil War.
