More about this scene

The war memorial stands in the foreground. Reeth is where the famous Bartle Fairs (named after the fact that they were held on St Bartholomew's Day) were held from the late 17th century. Reeth's green is typical of many Pennine villages: in more troubled ancient times, cattle were herded here, with the cottages grouped defensively around it.
