This sheltered harbour lies east of Ilfracombe. At its head is Watermouth Castle, built in 1825 for Joseph Davie Bassett. It boasts the full medieval accoutrements of turrets, battlements, dungeons and drawbridge - although quite what use they would have been in the 19th century is open to question.
