Facit, to the north of Whitworth, was elected for a church under the Rochdale Vicarage Act, 1866.St John`s was consecrated on 1 December 1871. Seen here with its school on the left it commands excellent views over the railway, which was opened in 1870. All passenger trains ceased in 1947, but goods and special trains continued into the 1960s.
