Nostalgic memories of Westbury's local history

Share your own memories of Westbury and read what others have said

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our web site to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was when the photographs in our archive were taken. From brief one-liners explaining a little bit more about the image depicted, to great, in-depth accounts of a childhood when things were rather different than today (and everything inbetween!). We've had many contributors recognising themselves or loved ones in our photographs.

Why not add your memory today and become part of our Memories Community to help others in the future delve back into their past.

We lived upstairs in flat 111 (I think!) and while mum (Margaret Gray) helped dad start the shop, my sister Rona (5 at that time) went to the C of E infant school (near Parish Church) and I being 3 was farmed out to a friend (Dot Large) in an old (and supposedly haunted) 17th century ...see more

My gran used to live in old folks home as well. I think it was called Queens Court. The junior school was just behind it. Also the shops are on left of picture.
My father worked on the site building Westbury Shopping Centre. I remember there being a full size model of a dalek in the dry cleaners that used to be on one end of block. Used to be able to get inside it and pretend to be a dalek, which was great fun for an 8 year old.
I used to live in Cedar Grove, before moving to Swindon with my parents and brothers and sisters. I used to be friends with l Whitfield who lived up the road from us. I still have relatives in Westbury. Last time I was in Oldfield Park it hadn't changed at all. I used to go to the junior school just round the corner and then to senior school at Matravers.
My dad's family lived at No 37, Fore Street, Westbury. My grandfathe'rs name was Fredrick Collier.
I lived just round the corner from here and went to the junior school. My nan lived here in one of the flats, I can't remember the year though... Frances Mead.
My wife Lynne and I visited Westbury in 2003. My Grandfather was born in Edward Street, where we think FG Collier & Son Ltd. have their premises. Donovan Collier, thought the family could have lived in the older part of the building around the corner. G-Grandfather William Hibbard was a baker and Master Butcher in Westbury. Would like to know if in fact this was their residence in the 1871 Census ?
my nan and grandad both lived in the second house down in this picture next too the car, ron and jean elkins
