School Years 1960 1967

A Memory of Bushey Heath

I attended Rosary Priory from September 1960 until July 1967 and was known as Shirley Hayward. I now use my full Christian name and have done for many years which is Shirley-Anne. I loved every minute (except for the Maths lessons - I was hopeless but Geometry was a doddle - strange that!) I didn't want to leave. My class spent the first couple of years in the huts while the new school was being built. I remember an Anne Baker, although not sure if it is the same girl who has left a memory on this site. Other classmates included Ann Rogan, Gillian Green, Susan Thornton, Patricia Flannagan, Christina Smith, Shiela Browne, Marjorie Landers, Angela Hunter, Angela O'Farrell, Sally Hamlin, Deborah Harris and Sandra Wilkinson (?) amongst others whose names I can't recall. Some of the teachers were; Sisters Vincenza, Barbara, Perpetua, Laurentia, Theresina, and the best of them all by miles..Sister Alphonsus who was my 5th form and therefore 'O' level teacher. She was a brilliant. Wish I'd had her for 'A' Levels. Headmistress was Sister Vianney. I remember one PE teacher - Mrs Simpson, and we had Anna Mills teaching Dance when I was in the 6th form, which is how I ended up at London College. She trained there too.
My school days were extremely happy as were those that followed at The London College of Dance and Drama. Shame we have to grow up!
