For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our web site to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was when the photographs in our archive were taken. From brief one-liners explaining a little bit more about the image depicted, to great, in-depth accounts of a childhood when things were rather different than today (and everything inbetween!). We've had many contributors recognising themselves or loved ones in our photographs.

My granny in the 1940’s/ early 50’s worked in the Raven hotel in Droitwich. She was an assistant manager. Her name would’ve been Bridget (Dillie) Irwin. She married my Grandad Thomas hamm and changed her name to Hamm. Just wondering does anyone remember her or her best friend at the time Sylvia Chession. Thanks your help.

Bunty and Ted Maintenance and decorating, George Sparks was the Electrician for the Hotel. The head porter was Ted Bourne. Miss Boughton was the Manager. Happy Days. JS
The photo of Droitwich Winter Gardens brings back memories of the time 1965 - 1970. Spent many weekends enjoying the music saw the Yarbirds group live. My Parents used to run a cafe in the High Street, but my friends and I used to gather in the Cosy Cafe many great times to remember.

My mother ("Molly" Tonks) was manageress at the Salters Hall cafe. I used to roll napkins and silverware for her after school. We lived in the flat above. We traveled to America on Cunard White Star's Britannic in late November. I am seeking information about the school I would have attended then, at age 8, as I have no information and would appreciate knowing more about life in Droitwich at that time. Thank you very much.
WH Smith in Victoria square provided us local kids with hours of fun. Down stairs you were able to read magazines, books and newspapers. You could buy pens, pencils and paper for your school work, but the best part of WH Smiths was to be found up the stairs. Yes, at one time you could go upstairs in Smith's. The location then is the same as now - exactly the same building but a little smaller. The area which you ...see more
I'm pretty sure the hunts used to leave from outside the Worcestershire Hotel which had a wide off road drive, rather than the Raven, which was on the street. I remember going there to watch them set off.
When I was under 7 in the late 1950's my parents & I lived in Offerton cottages just down the road from what my mother used to call the "Pretty House". The couple who lived there were a Mr & Mrs Dowdswell ( I may have got the spelling wrong). My parents were friends of the Dowdswell's and I remember going into the cottage. I can remember saying to my mother that there were even pictures in the ...see more
I remember those incredible gardens just as Laura does. I grew up in Droitwich and we went there often in the 50's and 60's. Whenever we had friends or relatives to stay, it was the place we took them to. I'm not sure how we travelled there as we didn't have a car until the mid 60's - perhaps there was a bus? I just know as a child, I thought they were magical. I haven't been to the area for a long time, so how sad to hear they have been destroyed.
