Nostalgic memories of Kilburn's local history

Share your own memories of Kilburn and read what others have said

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our web site to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was when the photographs in our archive were taken. From brief one-liners explaining a little bit more about the image depicted, to great, in-depth accounts of a childhood when things were rather different than today (and everything inbetween!). We've had many contributors recognising themselves or loved ones in our photographs.

Why not add your memory today and become part of our Memories Community to help others in the future delve back into their past.

We have lived in kilburn most of our lives. Lived in Hilltop Road and Iverson Road in the 60's & 70's. Does anyone remember the Phoenix Youthclub netherwood street. Spent many a great night in there. It was run by Bill. Can't remember his surname. Would love to hear from any family's living in the same area at that time.who might remember us we are a big family and probably not easy to forget. Happy memories. The newtons
Born in 101 Albert Road, moved to Charlton House and lived in flat No.38; the Whitby's, Streets, Watsons, Sullivans, Corrs, Reynolds, Ryans, Butchers, were all my neighbours. I went to St Marys School, Granville Road then onto Gordon Memorial then to Willesden Tech College. Anyone remember the coach trips to the seaside? I remember the adults throwing coins out of the coach windows before it ...see more
I used to live at No.18 Palmerston Road. Palmerston pub was on the corner, it’s a Nandos now. There was a shop called Tony’s who used to make his own ice cream and lovely pineapple lollies. Next door was an off licence where I used to get the old lady upstairs, Nanny Shattock, her bottle of Mackerson. Halfway down was the wash house, mum used to do the washing there once a week and on a Friday we all ...see more
I remember my sister and I going to what we used called Mick's café in Willesden Lane, we were too young to go anywhere else and we would get our flat white or cappuccino and just thought it was fluffy coffee then! We used to spend hours and hours there with our friends and Mick was a wonderful person to put up with all these young teenagers!
My sister and I lived in three different places in Kilburn, at Willesden Lane, 55 Dyne Rd (I can't believe I still remember the number) and Queens Park Road. We had several Polish relatives that lived close by as well. As young children, like you, we used to go to the cinema and quite often to the park crossing the big major road without a thought. I remember the magician who used to ...see more
Born in Kilburn Square in the early 30's we moved to Iverson Road and were there during the war. I used to act as messenger for the ARP who used the DOB club in Maygrove Road as their base and went to Beckford school walking through the Black Path by the LMS station to get there. In January 1945 a V2 exploded over the railway behind Iverson putting my mother and I in hospital for three months and ...see more

I don't suppose there's anyone alive today who remembers this event but they would have to be about 143 years old! But as a shot in the dark, I wonder if anyone who remembers old Fairs and Fêtes in Kilburn or may have known about them from a grandparent or someone, to discover what a side-show event at such a Fête as described in the Title here and called PLOTOPAHLEA ...see more

I have a vivid memory of playing on the bomb site in Cambridge Place, I was 10 years old and a real tomboy. As my grandmother lived at number 11 Cambridge Place together with my Aunt Peg, Aunt Patsy and Uncle Peter, it was easy to get into the site by her back yard. We used to make camps out of anything, get what food we could get from our mums and stay all day on the site, even in bad ...see more
