Nostalgic memories of Kilburn's local history

Share your own memories of Kilburn and read what others have said

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our web site to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was when the photographs in our archive were taken. From brief one-liners explaining a little bit more about the image depicted, to great, in-depth accounts of a childhood when things were rather different than today (and everything inbetween!). We've had many contributors recognising themselves or loved ones in our photographs.

Why not add your memory today and become part of our Memories Community to help others in the future delve back into their past.

Hi, I am looking for Tommy Roach and Willy Watts (think Willy lived in Albert or Denmark Road). Back in the day they used to meet in a cafe off of Queens Park Station. I am doing this for my brother-in-law, Roy Langdale, he married Pat Kane. I know it is not much to go on yet, will try and find out more.
Hello, I lived in West HAMPSTEAD from 1941 to 1970. I now live in Yorkshire. I am looking for some old mates from that time they are - David Jacobs from Rundu Rd , Bill Taylor of Clermonte Rd, John of Lymington Rd, Mike the flower, Rosemont Rd.
I lived in Curzon Crescent when I met Tony. Was at Willesden Grammar school and Tony lived in Stonebridge Park area of NW10. We briefly lived together in a bedsit near Kilburn and Shepherds Bush. He had two sisters that lived in Kilburn but can't recall their names. JoAnne was born in Park Royal Hospital in 1968 and I would love for her to meet her father. Any info would be great and treated with confidence.
Hello ....I am trying to find Tony and Terry Smith; they are twins one dark, one fair, they had a sister as well. They lived in the Kilburn area in 60's ... Tony was perhaps a bit of a rascal who loved motorbikes and ended up in a borstal for a short period when I was born. As you can imagine trying to trace a Smith is extremely difficult so any help or memories of this family would be a ...see more
I lived in Torbay Road just off the Willesden Lane and our two parks were Queens Park and Grange Park. The State Cinema seemed very grand, so we all used to go to Saturday morning pictures at the Grange cinema. If you were lucky you could also get in round through the back doors for free, so could watch the same film several times! It all seems a long time ago and though most of us came from ...see more

Born Dec. 1924 Dollis Hill Ave, son of E.H.Carter who lived at Crown Terrace. In 1912 he opened his half-shop as a newsagent and tobacconist, joined-up in 1915 and left the running to his sister Florence who eventually lived in Gladstone Park Gardens. I took over in 1950 and became more of a stationer with one eye on the American scene and the new popularity for greeting cards. My memories are ...see more
I worked for 3 years as a Saturday girl in Snows the bakers (in fact the head office at the time) at the Brondesbury end of Kilburn High Road. It was not far from the Foresters Hall which I understand is now a small theatre. During the school holidays I used to sometimes work at the other branch at the bottom end of Kilburn High Road or some of the other branches including Shepherds ...see more
Does anyone remember the stage in Grange Park? On a Friday evening they used to put plays or musicals on. Kids weren't let in until they were a certain age and they had to be accompanied by one or both of their parents. On Saturdays they used to put on childrens shows and if you wanted to participate you had to sing a song or recite a poem and you won a book. I remember standing up and singing for ...see more
I often think back to the days of going around on my Raleigh Grifter, all my other friends on their choppers or a Raleigh Burner if you were really rich! We used to cycle up to Webheath Estate and think we were the coolest kids on the block, we had some laughs up there chasing after each other. Cotleigh Rd was my manor, NW6, swimming in Swiss Cottage with the choice of 3 pools. I moved back to Ireland ...see more
