Polesworth has developed on both sides of the River Anker, with the original Saxon settlement on the north bank.
To the right of the statue is Lark Hill, a mansion built in 1790 and formerly the home of Colonel Ackers of the Manchester & Salford Volunteers.
The River Anker flows slowly by St Peter's, which has served the village since 1173.
Duplicating an earlier shot from 1897, this view is looking westwards up East Street from the River Asker and East Bridge.
Coverack men were infamous for smuggling, and early coastguards reported that '7,000 ankers of brandy' had been run ashore in a single 12-month period.
This picture shows a mill leat from the River Asker (right) and a three storey building (left), the former Marquis of Granby, which dates from 1768.
